timming belt question

I just replaced my water pump & timming belt.
The timming belt only had about 40,000 miles on it and the belt looked good, but when I took it off I didn't keep track of the direction it ran. I know that when I put it on, it had arrows for direction it needed to rotate. they wore off, and I couldn't tell the direction it had turned.
Does anyone know how important it is for the belt to run in one direction, and also my new belt had no direction arrows and the parts guy said it didn't make a differance on direction for the new belts.

Ideas?? Thanks.

Re: timming belt question

It doesn't make a difference on a new belt. If you where reinstalling the old one than you would want to keep it rotating the same way.
