Steering Rack differences

Guys,

I have the ex 4dr with the power steering rack. Now that I have the b18 in there I'm thinking about swapping to the manual rack. Are there differences between any of the racks, gear ratios stuff like that?

I don't believe so. Just make sure you get the mounting brackets to go with it as well. Power racks are a little bit bigger than the manuals.

Re: Steering Rack differences

You need to change the whole crossmember to do it. But its really pointless to swap one. Just depower the rack, lop the lines after adding a bit of fluid in them. The rack will feel exactly the same as a non power, I ran a depowered rack in my crx because it was all I could get ahold of at the time. Also you could just make some simple custom lines to fit the b18 PS pump. All that is different is the side of the pump it enters from.

Re: Steering Rack differences

Thanks Frodo...I had forgot that I did the swap on a EJ instead of one of my EDs...because both of them have manual anyways.

Frodo is correct though, with the lines looped, its the same. I felt no difference in steering when I switched to a manual rack, I just did the swap because I had gone through 2 power racks with looped lines and was hoping maybe a manual would last longer...I was wrong. Keep in mind this was racing on a dirt oval is why I was going through the steering racks.
