1978 Porsche 935 "Moby Dick"
Has anyone come across this specific model before? I seem to be having trouble finding it. I can find the other Porsche Martini's, however not this one.
If this kit doesn't exist would there be a way to modify one of the other Porsche Martini cars? |

Re: 1978 Porsche 935 "Moby Dick"
It does exist!
Produced in 1:24 scale by: Gunze, Tamiya, Fujimi, Aoshima, LS, Marui, BenHobby, Aifix, Imai, Nichimo and others. Should be fairly easy to locate some on eBay. |

Re: 1978 Porsche 935 "Moby Dick"
I thought the Porsche 935's that I have seen are not the Moby Dick versions...
This is the Porsche 935 "Moby Dick" ![]() This is the Porsche 935, which all the models are made after.

Well, since the edit button doesn't work I'll try to post those pictures again...
This is the Moby Dick (notice the extended bumber and the different spoiler)... ![]() This is the Porsche 935 the models are made after. ![]() [edit] Well I found the car made by tamiya. It is apparently electric and it costs a pretty penny. So I may wait on this one. Last edited by MethaneMS; 11-10-2008 at 09:03 PM. |

Re: 1978 Porsche 935 "Moby Dick"
Here is the link to the one I built. These should not be that expensive. When Tamiy USA first started they had a load of these from MRC and were on sale for $5.99. The Fujimi one was also sold in a Testor's box.

The ones I saw on ebay were from japan and the import fees throw it up to $60. It seems steep to me, I'll try and find some online vendors who still carry it.

I know it very well how a Porsche 935 "Moby Dick" looks like! You only need to read my previous post, go to ebay.com and search for: 1. Gunze Porsche http://cgi.ebay.com/Gunze-Sangyo-78-...1%7C240%3A1318 Looks cheap enough to me! And it's in the US. There are also tamiya kits, but they are expensive because they are OOP for quite some time. Take your time and look around before biting those who tried to help you. |

Re: 1978 Porsche 935 "Moby Dick"
Just a bit of trivia regarding this kit, The Moby Dick 935 was the 1st 1/24 plastic car kit tamiya ever released (April 1977). They actually released an injection moulded D type Jag (!) in the 60's, but it was a slot car.
If you do track one down, it's quite a sound kit, but needs the front half of the doors added and the stance needs to be corrected as it sits too high (maybe a compromise due to the motorisation?). Just add some PE hoodpins and a bit of detailing to the interior (harness, etc.) and it scrubs up quite well. |

Re: 1978 Porsche 935 "Moby Dick"
There are plenty of 935-78 models to choose from! I keep a listing at my website:
http://www.xs4all.nl/~robdebie/models/911-935.htm The total number of RSR Turbo/934/935 kits is nearing 150 now.. Rob |
