03 Civic - clicking sound from passenger side engine transmission area
I just started to get this annoying rapping or clicking sound from the passenger side of the engine.
I started to think valves or a blocked oil passage but I really don't think this is in the engine at all but in the clutch or transmission area. Here's why: 1. Sometimes when I accelerate from start the sounds are normal ... clicking then will start when I change gears ... or not. Its never the same but very loud. Sometimes it starts right away when i accelerate from stop. Once I reach top gear it appears to go away. 2. I here clicking (fainter sound) when the car is idling in neutral. So this would rule out cv joints and brakes ... right. 3. When the clutch is applied the click stops period. I can rev the engine and it sounds normal no clicking at all. This leads me to believe that the sound is totally elsewhere. 4. Sometimes i can accelerate and shift up 2-3 gears before the clicking sound re-appears. And when it does its loud ... Sounds like driving a car with no oil. I have been told that this may be a sign of a bad clutch or possibly bent clutch fingers, failed spring. If this is the case then why would the sound go away sometimes. Could it also be something with the clutch bearing? Any help is appreciated |

Re: 03 Civic - clicking sound from passenger side engine transmission area
It could be the clutch, from the sound of it, I would check your cv boots and all your balljoint for play, also the tie rods, if they look ok, move on to the tranny.
