Issues with indicator lights coming on randomly....

I just bought a 2000 Grand AM SE. I took it to be certified and when I got the car back the Low trac light will come on, then the ABS, Service Vehicle Soon and the Trac Off lights come on with that lovely beeping. My hubby put the code reader on it, nothing came back. It also seems that when these lights come on, my steering gets more sensitive. He's even pulled the front end apart trying to find out why it sounds loose up there, thinking maybe it had to do with the light issue. Any ideas?

Welcome... Well to start off a standard Code reader will not pull the codes for those lights. You need to get one with an ABS capable reading. You can try some auto repair chains like autozone ( if you have one near by) some of them do free code scanning. There are a few things that could be causing those lights like, a loose or broken ABS or wheel speed sensor. Also bad hub bearings are also known to trigger those lights. Hub bearings tend to make a moaning/grinding noise while driving.

Re: Issues with indicator lights coming on randomly....

I had a 99 GT that did that. My low tire pressure light came on a week after I bought the car and no matter how many times I reset it would come back on but my tires were not losing pressure either! After about five months of that is when my ABS started to randomly go out and then my wheel bearings. That sounds exactly the same to me. And I just got another GA but its just an SE sedan and it is doing the same thing!!!

03 Grand Am GT1

The same thing is happening to me, but this all started after I changed the front brakes. I didn't have a line lock, so when I pushed the calipers in, it must have done something. It only does it if I start out slow or go over a speed bump. And sometimes in reverse. The lights go out every time I turn off the car. Some times they come on immediately, other days, they won't come on @ all.

It sounds like you might have a wire issue to the speed sensor on the wheels hub assemblies.
