E40D Transmission Question

My 1999 F250 SD 4x4 w/E40D auto tran. had a very slight and only once in a while, barely noticable slip on take off. I dropped the pan, changed the filter and flushed the system. Trans. fluid was dark and smelled of burn. Seems to be doing fine now. I have been advised to add TRANS X STOP LEAK & TUNE-UP just as a precaution. Can anyone tell me if this is a good idea?
Please help....

Re: E40D Transmission Question

You have done the only "precaution". Fluid and filter. Don't put any of that crap in there. I don't swear by any additives as a general rule. If you have a problem, the fix DOES NOT come in a can! I am not a fan of that witches brew crap. They prey on guys that don't know any better. If you fluid was burnt you only get that one way, either pull heavy and don't use o/d off button when going slower, OR something is worn out and/or slipping. I don't remember what gear it is but the E4OD behind the diesels especially, are known to spit out a snap ring. BUT, if that happens you will loose it all. The torque convertor is a weak link too. Even worse when pulling heavy and not using the button right. Off the shelf chips like to increase the pressures in the transmission, this makes the snap rings more prone to come off. If you do end up having to build it, get an after market converter. You are probably looking at 800 to 1000 bucks for one, but it will make it like another truck. The E4OD behind the Strokes left alot to be desired in my book, but good parts and a better converter goes a very long way in making it feel better...
