87 camaro 350- Vibration while accelerating and lack power but not high speeds
My car vibrates while accelerating also lack of power. But at highway speeds the is no vibration. the exhaust sounds like a misfire but its not i changed the plugs, wires, cap, and rotor, before this happened... i hard accelerated when this happened.. I put the vehicle in park or neutral and there is still vibration felt... Firing order is correct 18436572. exhaust valves seals are leaking i have blue smoke from the exhaust. and also just recently after the vibration the coolant temp gauge went crazy but is probably just the ect. knocked around from vibration. I checked fuel pressure 40psi. checked for arcing with mist spray none.. Is it possible the rotor or cap went bad in 500 miles, or distributor jumped or is shot.

Re: 87 camaro 350- Vibration while accelerating and lack power but not high speeds
you may have a worn out harmonic balancer. check for misfire by removing plug wires one at a time while the car is running. if you remove one and it makes no difference in how it runs, then you will know which one is misfiring.

Re: 87 camaro 350- Vibration while accelerating and lack power but not high speeds
I checked for codes but there wasn't a misfire code... If i did the code check the old way would a misfire code come up? i stuck a paper clip in the two top right of the obd connector... how hould you tell if you have a bad harmonic balancer?

Re: 87 camaro 350- Vibration while accelerating and lack power but not high speeds
There is NO misfire code for OBD I vehicles.
To check the balancer, pull the #1 plug. Put your thumb over the hole and rotate the engine by hand. When #1 is coming up on compression you'll feel the air blowing your thumb out of the plug hole. When it stops blowing you should be at #1 top dead center (or near enough). Look at the balancer/. The timing mark should be on zero or VERY close to it. What you describe sounds more like a broken transmission mount. Jack the car up so you can get under it (put it on jack stands). Slide under it with a jack and a block of wood. Put the jack under the pan with a block of wood between the pan and jack. Look for the trans mount. It sits on top of the cross member back behind the trans pan. Carefully jack the trans and look for the rubber mount seperating from the metal plate in it. Replace if it does seperate. |
