While I agree with his statement that the uncertainty of rain at Melbourne had more effect on the race than the new rules, I think his suggesting that the FIA wet the track with sprinklers at the start of each race to create(artificial) excitement, is insane!

Start the race by giving Schumie a greater advantage?
We all know what he is like in the wet.....so he suggests they wet the track?

That is being a bit harsh. An oval is no place to be in the rain. Look at CART, they race on wet road and street courses (although what happened on the Gold Coast last year definitly wasn't racing). However, should it get a bit damp on an oval then it is time to go home.

It has to do with the fine line of grip on an oval. Hit one piece of standing water and the say hello to the wall, doesn't matter how good the driver's car control is, he's riding a missile.

the thing about a oval tought it that you have forces acting on the car the hole way around the track because you turning the hole time. In road racing, its very different.

And how do you explain that they don't race on the few road courses they do have in the rain?

They still used the banked sections at Daytona in the 24 hour race, when it rained.....

Sorry Ray, I know nothing about NASCAR (and am happy to keep it that way) I was just extending the point to CART, who do race in the rain on circuits that turn left AND right. I fully agree that racing on a full ovel in the rain is lunacy. I guess using just the banking at Daytona is a bit different since the terminal velocity is much lower. Same deal with F1 at Indianapolis.

I didn't realise that NASCR even had road courses!
