Angry 91 Town Car brake problem

The brake pedal on my TC fails to return on it's own. I have searched the net and found that Ford had a service bulletin on this problem, bulletin 92-19-2. Can anyone help me out with this problem? Thanks

Re: 91 Town Car brake problem

Mine does that like once a year.. it's kinda irritating. I just grab the damn thing and pull it back up.. then it's good for another year (or so).. I use it every day. Parking brake.. right?

Re: 91 Town Car brake problem

I've never had that problem from my 91 or any other of my 10 LTC's. I thought there was a return spring in there. I just went out and looked on the 91, but I must have been thinking about something else because I didn't see one. Good point Steve which brake pedal, parking or main ? I would think that the main pedal could need lubing at the pivot points, or the master cylinder could be hanging up.

I've had that problem on my old 80's Caddy's with the parking brake, just had to play with the manual release.

Exclamation Re: 91 Town Car brake problem

It is the main brake pedal, when I researched it the Crown Vics, Grand Marqs and other models had the same problem but I can't find what the fix is.

Re: 91 Town Car brake problem

I posted this on the Crown Vic forum and I got my answer. The problem is the brake booster as per the service bulletin...Thanks guys

Re: 91 Town Car brake problem

That's interesting, how many miles on the car ? My 94 has 233k and still going strong, and it's in great shape.

Thumbs up Re: 91 Town Car brake problem

My TC has 83K and is like new, this is the only problem it has other then the valve guides. Below is the Ford Service Bulletin that Airjer was kind enough to post for me on the Crown Vic forum

Re: 91 Town Car brake problem

Maybe a stupid suggestion but have you tried bleeding the brakes for air? Sometimes air infiltrates the lines and causes gaps in fluid resulting in weird things happening to the brake pedal. Again, could be totally off but from what I understand that could definitely be part of the problem.
