Erratic idle

Hello, I have a 97 GTP that has 140k on it and has a problem at idle. the car has an erratic idle and will rev upto about 3k then cut out in park. if you take it out on the road it pull to yellowline through the gears at wide open throttle with good power. I have a newer fuel pump filter ,as well as newer plugs and wires. what do you think it could be?

Re: Erratic idle

Check & clean the idle air control (IAC). I assume you have checked for vacuum leaks.

Re: Erratic idle

Are you saying the car revs to 3k by itself, or will only rev to 3k or so in park when you push the gas pedal?

Re: Erratic idle

yeah...theres something called a rev limiter. when your in park and rev your car, it will kick in at 3K RPM's. its there for a reason...
