Re: Next Question...Tire Size For 82' Box

I think the box caprices come with 205-75-15s stock but you can go up to 225-75-15s no problem on the same rims and it wont throw off the speedometer, i currently have 225-75-15s on mine, i like look of the 225's better than the 205s, makes it look more beefier

Re: Next Question...Tire Size For 82' Box

exactly my words. and i do belive that 225 is the biggest you can go with the stock rims. i personally would get a nice set of crager rims and stuff some 235's in the rear and 215's in the front

205 is the stock size 215 is the option size...215 size is better on tire life and load...I used 215 75 r15 after the oem 205 worn out...never had any speedo issues...if you use larger tires be carefull you will get speeding ticket..I know of owners that had this happen speedo off 10mph in a 30mph zone....large rear tires did it....it did look good but it was expensive...

Re: Next Question...Tire Size For 82' Box

i always thought that if the tires were taller it will throw off speedo not width

your tires size choices are to me correct... in winter you need narrow width tires...and the 70 tires are good in dry non snow conditions..load ratings are also good.

I always suggest that if you do not use the correct listed tire to check load rating and RPM'S /mile..

Re: Next Question...Tire Size For 82' Box

Just one word I want to throw out about those Futura GLS tires through personal experience (apologies to mike561):

GARBAGE.

They will not last you two years and they can suffer catastrophic failure, at the least damaging your ride and at the worst, killing you.

I bought 4 of these in 1999 for my Grand Am. They were 255/60 R15. They were all replaced under warranty in early 2001, due to tread separation failures. Tire pressure was religiously maintained during the time they were on the car (as is still the case). The warranty replacemets suffered similar failures by the end of 2002, and two of them were replaced. The other two were thrown in the garbage, as I decided to cut my loss. The other two (the warranty replacements for the warranty replacements) also failed and I cut my losses on those as well. Of the failures, 3 of them were catastrophic, leading to bent metal and one near collision. All of the major failures occured at freeway speed.

3 of these tires found their way onto my Caprice by 2002 - two of them suffered two of the three catastrophic failures. There's still damage to my left rear quarter panel from one of the failures (which launched me across all 3 lanes of the US 60 freeway at Crismon Road in Mesa, at 75MPH in 2003).

Since then I've bought most of my tires at Discount (never had a bad tire from them), although the 4 I have on there now came from Pep Boys, they're Hankook tires and not the Pep Boys brand.

I guess these tires don't like the heat of the arizona desert..
I get my tires from costco. the total package is usually much cheaper than the other tire shops..Its been about 15 years and from costco I had one tire belt defect [caused vib's] and they replaced the tire for 30.oo..had about 50% wear..

they don't carry all brands, that can be a problem.....

Re: Next Question...Tire Size For 82' Box

When i was shopping around for tires i almost got ones similar to those Futuras. I liked the look of them however, the sears guy referred me to the goodyear assurance 215 75 tires because they were of a newer compound and better tread pattern. If you compared the two tires you could tell the difference was between 21st century technology, or 20th century technology. It's better to NOT sacrifice function over fashion as i always say.
