Yes I was wondering how I would go about getting getting my rear axle out! Has A thick washer that cannot get out to slide axle out. Any help would greatly appreciated! Need to change outer wheel seal due to leaking!!

I pulled the cover plate on the rear end. I some times get mixed up but I think you will see a pin appx. 3/4 inch diameter remove the bolt and remove the pin. Then when the spider gears are removed their is a horse shoe shaped clip you remove. Then the axle can be pulled out. Positraction are a little more complicated but are done appx. the same way. If you get in a jamb buy a Haynes or Chiltons manual.
Buy quality gear lube and a new gasket at the parts store before you start.
Be careful and don't break the small bolt new ones are available at the parts store. Tap the wrench don't use a 1/4 inch socket and 3/8 inch breaker bar.
If it breaks use a small left hand drill and easy out.
You can google and find some pictures of doing the job including removing the small bolt.

Yes to what rhandwor said. Except you do not need to remove the spider gears, Just turn the carfrier do you can access the lock bolt. As he stated, be careful of the little lock bolt. It is easily broken. It is an 8mm head on it.

Re: 96 f-150 rear end

When I took cover off what is holding axle is a horseshoe washer! It sits in to a seat in the axle and there is a sear in the gear! It appears that the running gear has to be unbolted to get access to the washer! I am not sure. I know there is not a pin or bolt to take out for the axle alone. By the way it is one hell ashes horseshoe washer! I would like thank you for the input!!!
