Re: cleaning a Transmission Solinode pack?

ok kinda confused, why is it so sensitive and whats sensitive on it that i have to practice at the wreckers? and why does the computer go into limp mode what is limp mode? but why does it need to be flashed? i read that all u do is unplug the battery for a bit then do the shifting for like 5 second things why does it take several hundred kms? right now i cant go faster really then 40km but i can when i let go of the gas and it drives at 80kms in like i guess 2nd gear or 1st gear as L 3 and OD run all in the same gear so would that be the solinode pack or something else?.

but what is the flashing for and this limp mode?

Re: cleaning a Transmission Solinode pack?

From what you describe your trans is in (limp mode) right now. Limpmode is 2nd gear and reverse only. This is possible because of the manual valving in the valve body. The solenoid pack is not seviceable. It is a replacement part only. You need an older DRB2 or DRB3 with the right cables and cartridges or a scan tool like a Snap On MT 2500 with the proper cables. The scanner is connected inside at the same connector you access the BCM. The veering to the left on accel is called torque steer. More than likely you have a bad mount at the front of the eng; passenger side.

Re: cleaning a Transmission Solinode pack?

so why does teh computer go to limp mode whats the purpose of that? what do you mean by "this is possible because of the manual valving in the valve body" ah i read about the solenoid pack could be serviced if u was the membraines but i dunno how, probably easier to replace the pack. now is it the pack thats wrong or a sensor? i see there is an input sensor what does that do? and how did the car go into limp mode? and it only pulls to the left on gas and right off the gas since the tranny was slipping and moving into this no gearing thing, before that it ran fine.

what is a DRB2 or 3? what is the snap on 2500? is that the same as the OBD 1 code reader from canadian tire? www.canadiantire.com and look up OBD let me know
so what is the BCM? i have no idea what all that means can the car no recorrect itself if i put a new pack in?

comet240, I get an overwhelmoing sense that it might be wise for you NOT to take apart your transmission-I'm sure they can be very complicated. You might make a bad situation worse!Just my 2 cents.

Re: cleaning a Transmission Solinode pack?

It would be best to have the DTC (codes) pulled from the trans controller first. It would be a waste of time to clean the solenoids of that was not the problem.

Re: cleaning a Transmission Solinode pack?

First Limp mode is when the(TCM) Transmission Control Module has detected a problem it will stop it's control of the Trans. That is why at this point yours is not shifting and you have second and reverse. DRB 2 and 3 are factory scan tools. With these tools you can access the computer; read codes, and check sensor inputs. Without this you are guessing when you replace parts. I can't access canadian tire as I don't have a postal code I have a zip code. I also suggest you take it somewhere and have it scanned or at least have the codes read.

Re: cleaning a Transmission Solinode pack?

so when the computer detects that there is a problem why does it shut itself down to limp mode? is that a safety feature and why cant just unplugging the battery fix it?

use my postal code k0l 1y0
like the engine service light hasnt come on yet, and will the scan tool guaretee that its working and this scan tool can it show live data and stuff for obd 1? as i only seen for GM u can do it

Re: cleaning a Transmission Solinode pack?

Limp mode is a safety feature to prevent further transmission damage if something fails.

I strongly suggest you get a ATSG Service manual if you want to work on this trans. It will explain the DTC codes and how this trans operates.

Re: cleaning a Transmission Solinode pack?

Scan tool #25-1009-8 might possibly work; looking at the connectors available with it. They don't give enough info on-line. You might want to ck with the manufacturer.
