Question Transmission fluid for Corolla 1995

I have a Toyota Corolla DX 1995, I would like to replace the transmission fluid. Can you please tell me what type of transmission fluid I should use. Someone told me I can use the power steering fluid as a transmission fluid, is that true.

I have purchased my car about two years ago, without any documentation.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Thank you in advance,

-Jay

Re: Transmission fluid for Corolla 1995

If you have a manual transmission, use GL-4 gear oil
If you have an automatic transmission, use Dextron ATF (which is the same fluid to add to your power steering fluid reservoir). If you have a 3-speed AT, you will also need to change the differential (final drive) fluid with Dextron ATF.
