Question Is this from the trunk pull down?

Upon inspection, I found this part beneath the cover in the trunk:

It fits horizontally in the housing:

I suppose there are other parts missing to hold it. Can anyone tell me or make a picture to see what I should be looking for?

Also how do I test the trunk pull down mechanism?

Re: Is this from the trunk pull down?

Yes, the first pic is the motor stator. The winding & housing are evidently missing. The pic below is how the motor looks attached to the gear housing (less internal gears). BTW, please try to downsize your pics to a max of 600 X 800 pixels before posting here. Thanks

Re: Is this from the trunk pull down?

I have put the pictures above under thumbnails.
Will the trunk still be able to close when I take out (the remaining part of) the motor?

Thanks for the pic edit! Leave the gear housing in place as is. Reinsert the rotor back into the gear housing and turn it to run the latch mechanism down to the bottom position and close the trunk. I used a drill motor to do this because it takes many turns due to the gear reduction of the gear box. After the latch is down, the electric release solenoid should still work, but of course, the power closure motor will not run. After you get it to the home position (all the way down) the trunk should closed tight. Now, open the trunk, remove the rotor, and use some JB Weld around the top of the latch assembly to hold it in place, otherwise, it will work itself loose with vibration and the trunk seal will again become compromised. After the modification, you will be required to use your hand and a little force to close the trunk lid, the same as with any trunk lid without the power closure option.

Re: Is this from the trunk pull down?

Finally I managed to make a working pull down motor again from parts of other motors, they all seem broken.

I am not too fond of this piece of engineering however, if anything fails you are stuck with an open trunk !

Now, up to fixing the next option, the cruise control...
