CV Axle replacement

Hey guys, got a question for you.

My brother is trying to change a CV axle (passenger side) on his wife's 98 GT. I've never worked with one of these, but seeing as how I'm the mechanic in the family, I'm the one responsible for fixing it over the phone...

So, he's the the lower ball joint out, the stabilizer link out, and the tie rod out. I told him he should be able to swing it enough and back the axle out through the hub. He's still having trouble. Is there something I'm missing that I just don't know cause I can't see it?

Take the axel nut off, pop the ball joint loose, and you should just be able to pull the knuckle/hub far enough out in order to slip the axle out the back, then just use a pry bar and pry it out of the trans. There is a collapsable snap ring on the shaft that keeps it in. It requires some force to pop it out, but it will come. just dont pry on the axel shaft seal, or you might as well replace that too.

I did the passenger side CV half shaft on my 2000 GP in July and if I recall I had to use a pry bar to pop the half shaft from the transmission and had to use a good amount of pressure for it to release. Putting the new shaft in was a little easier and you have to make sure it seats or it won't fit when you try to put the hub back. Good Luck.
