Disabling air bag... is it really this easy?

I have a 1992 Miata with some front end damage. While working on it, I want to be sure that I don't set off the air bag. My Hayne's Manual says all I have to do to disable it is simply set the wheels straight, remove the key, unhook the negative battery terminal and wait 2 minutes for the back-up capacitor to discharge. That seems too simple but those are the instructions I plan to follow. Unless someone warns me quickly of a potential problem that has been ignored by Haynes.
