2003 GMC Envoy SLT Front End Knocks
I'm hoping someone can help. I recently brought my 2003 Envoy XLT to a friend with some front end knocking (he's a mechanic at a local GM Dealership). I am close to 100,000 miles and he recommended I replace my sway bar links and ball joints. Both sides were replaced, but I still have a knock on my front end. It only can be heard when I hit the front brakes and "rock" the vehicle forward. It is not the brakes themselves. There is a bar with a few bushings that I did spray with lube in the past that eliminate the sound for a few. There is also two bolts near this area. I am unsure what this bar is... any ideas? I know where it is coming from, as I laid on my back and had my friend "rock" the vehicle slowly vehicle in front of me. Your help is greatly appreciated!

Re: 2003 GMC Envoy SLT Front End Knocks
Sounds to me like you are talking about the sway bar. If the sway bar bushings are bad it will make a poping sound when the body moves. Simply lubeing the bushings is a good temporary fix but about the only way to fix the problem, if it is the bushings, is to replace them. It isn't difficult to do.

Re: 2003 GMC Envoy SLT Front End Knocks
Could also be the upper strut mounts being loose. My '03 has the same problem and at about the same mileage. If you look up at the top of the strut and see a gap between a flat circular plastic piece and the strut mount, it's loose. If you jack up that side to unload the suspension and the gap disappears, it's loose.
The other option could be the bushings that hold the sway bar to the frame are loose or the rubber has become less pliable in the cold.
