2000 ford windstar brake pressure switch

Can anyone help me? I have read several posts in forums as to why my #10 fuse blows and I understand that it might be the brake pressure switch. It's leaking fluid and I have tried to keep it clean but does anyone know how much the part costs and how do I replace it. It seems that autozone or kragens doesn't carry it. Any ideas?

it's a pretty easy repair. Pull the +ve terminal off the battery, unattach the connector at the base of the brake pressure switch. Using a box wrench (or ideally a line wrench) remove the old brake pressure switch. Install the new one. Reattach the connectors and you should be good to go.

Couple of other things. 1 get the OEM part from Ford. Not a ton of $$. 2 DON'T take the brake fluid cap off! That will just allow air to enter the reservoir and make the fluid stream out quick when the old switch is out. 3 Lay some paper or have a container on hand to catch any brake fluid that spills. If you have the parts and tools ready you can do it with minimal spillage. 4 make sure you refill the reservoir to the proper level with the correct DOT fluid.

Re: 2000 ford windstar brake pressure switch

19hec68,

I actually have the original new design part from ford. I thought my yr had the old design but it was the new one. so i have it laying around. I'd be glad to sell it. I think it cost me $15 to buy it. pm me. I'm flexible on the cost.

Re: 2000 ford windstar brake pressure switch

I only had a couple drops come out when I replaced mine.
I have pictures that show the repair in the pictures that the link in my signature takes you to.
I do not think that they sell this part at the auto part stores.....I think it is still a dealer part......unless something has changed recently.
The good news is.....it is a cheap and easy repair.

Re: 2000 ford windstar brake pressure switch

Thanks Norther Piper. Everything workout perfect. There was minimal spillage. My wife's minivan has 120,000 with few problems and I just don't like to see warning lights on the panel. It's all good now. This is a great Forum. I have been successful twice now. Thanks.
