Restoration Bodywork question - 69

Hi, I'm new to the forum but am a long-time GTO fan and owner. I'm in the process of resuming a restoration on my 69, a project that was on hold for many years because "life got in the way".

I'm exactly half-way through a full quarter panel replacement on the passenger side, and have 2 questions:

1) The replacement quarter that I bought (new reproduction) has a black coating on it (paint, primer, both - I'm not sure). Do I need to put anything over this coating on the inside of the panel to provide more protection, or is the coating that's already on it sufficient? I'd really like to know the best answser before I weld it on.

2) On my 69, there's an inner brace about 20 inches long that runs horizontally. That brace was joined to the inner skin of the quarter panel by some sort of dense foam adhesive. The other end of the brace is welded to the inner body structure beneath the rear window. I'm having trouble identifying what this adhesive was and what I should use to (re)join this brace to the new quarter. I went to a local Sherwin Williams auto supply store and they showed me a two-part urethane foam that was similar, but was not nearly as dense or stiff as the factory stuff. Now, I don't know if that's really the case or the denseness and stiffness of the old foam adhesive was just due to age. Can someone please tell me which material I should use as a replacement adhesive and suggest a vendor?

Thanks much.

If you're interested, I'm keeping a running photo commentary of the project here:

Re: Restoration Bodywork question - 69

Welcome to AF. I would get some kind or rust/corrosion coating on the inner panel before installation, may POR15 for example. There is a panel bonding glue used on many door panel skins and truck box sides both oem and in the field, any body supply house would have this.
