HELP! Doing brakes and can't get things back together!

I am doing the brakes on my 03 Alero, have replaced the pads and rotor, but now can't get the caliper back on. I need to push it back but having issues. Did I miss something here? Please help, thanks!

OK, here's where I am after getting over the panic.

I have given up for tonight as it is now too dark to see. I have left the caliper tied to the spring. The piston in the caliper seems to be all the way out. My theory at this point is to loosen the bleeder screw a bit and try to push it back in. Should that fail, have someone slowly pump the brakes while pushing on it. If all that failes, bleed the brakes and try to push it in. If anyone has ANY ideas that may help, I'm listening.

Yes you need a large C clamp to push the piston back in, while the bleader is open.
This should keep most of the sediment and old fluid in the lower lines from back washing the propotioning valve and other critical ABS components causing problems down the road.

Actually I ended up stripping the bolt for the bleeder valve. After a day and a half of frustration, I took it in to the shop. Their guy said the caliper was done from the get go and needed to be replaced. I'm not sure if that really was the case or not, but was in a jam. How ever I still have my original problem of the caliper grinding against the rotor; which prompted me to finally get to my front brakes. I am thinking I got a half-@$$ job at the shop. Any ideas?

the caliper shouldnt be grinding on the rotor(s).

If the brake pads are on backwards, with the wear indicators on the outside, your pads will grind with or without your brakes on and screw up your rotors.

If the rotor touches the caliper then your caliper mounting braket could be bent..

have someone walk alongside the car as you brake. it may be the rear drums
