JDM & USDM CRX (CR-X) Si Duo.

I was going to build these at separate times, but lately I've had this reoccurring obsession for CRXs. So much so that I may try to find one in real life to build in my spare time.

On with the models for now:

I picked up these two kits on EBAY for cheep.

So the focus of this project is to build a USDM CRX Si and a JDM Cyber CRX with the glassroof.
The USDM will have after market mirrors, hood, seats, steering wheel and rims.
The JDM one will just have rims, and aftermarket steering wheel. They will both be lowered as well.

I went with a burnt orange (almost brown) metallic for the JDM one, and olive green for the USDM one. I won't be leaving it flat green it will get glossed. I will also paint the side moldings OEM black.

Carbon hood for the green one.
I started by making a tape tracing of the hood, then I applied it to the back of the carbon fiber decal sheet and cut it.

On the model itself it place tape on the areas that I did not want any excess decal to stick to. I did not want to hassle with trying to trim a wet decal and risk tearing it.

I forgot to shave down the DOHC ZC lump on the hood, US models don't have that. Oh well. The decal has one wrinkle that I couldn't get rid of. The decal is a bit too silver, so I sprayed it with Tamiya smoke to darken it.
I'll gloss it with the rest of the car, hopefully it will hide the wrinkle.

Interior time:

Notice anything strange here???

I have a little trick that I came up with to get a more realistic textured dash appearance. Tell me what you guy's think:

Okay first off you need "Scotch 233+" green automotive masking take.
Next start layering it on to the dash with a few cuts as possible:

Make sure to burnish the heck out of it because it wont be coming back off.
Apply very very very small amounts of filler to area where you can see the edges of the tape. You can also paint on some white glue to those areas if you wish.

Next prime, and paint with flat or semi gloss paint. The results will look like the normal stippled dash that cars have.

I'm half way done with the interior for the US model. I painted the Recaros black and olive.

Also note:
The door panels and dash in US models are charcoal and black. The door cards will also have the "CRX" logo on them as the US Si did. JDM and EDM models don't have this. But they have Vtec which we never got.

Here's the JDM one that I am doing.

DC2 Integra wheels yay

That's all for now, I'll be back with more later.

Re: JDM & USDM CRX (CR-X) Si Duo.

MAS!!!

Okay so I finished both interiors today. I am very pleased with the results.

I added flocking to the USDM cargo cover. Here are the steps I took.

Mask area to protect from excess glue. Then with a brush paint on some white glue (spray glue probably works better).

Then put some fine flocking in a jar and sprinkle it on. (If you press it down with your finger you will get denser results, I didn't on this one.)

Allow the glue to dry for a few minutes. Then dump off the excess.

Then prime and paint. Do many light coats. If you do too many heavy coats it will look like mud. Once it's painted you can crush it down with a blunt object if you want it flatter.

I thought the floors looked kinda plain, so I did some floor mats as well.
I cut some pieces of Evergreen into little floor mat shapes.

Then I painted on some glue and added my flocking. With these ones I did use my finger to smash it down so that more would stick to the glue.

Then prime and paint.

Done with the interiors.

Thank you for the compliments though.

The truth is that I'm anxious to see how end up.

This was my first demo! and I always follow the other.

Every time I think I will come back to that same arm to compare what progress in all this time ..

God Luck!

I have some left over bbs style wheels from an Acura kit that I may use on the Gold one.

I also picked up some XR-4's for the Green one, but the dish is way too deep. I'll post some pictures later.

So instead, I ordered some 15inch Hartge's for the greenie.

Re: JDM & USDM CRX (CR-X) Si Duo.

Not a whole lot of progress this week.

Painted the base coats for all the under body. I don't want to put any of it together until my other wheels show up next week from HLJ, so I can decide on which ones to use.

I also clear coated the bodies, but didn't polish them yet.

I did the carbon fiber on the mirrors for the green CRX. These little guys were a pain in the arse.

But they came out great once i smoked them, and clear coated.

These are the wheels that I was originally going to use on the green CRX.

However I think that the offset is too low for this car, as these wheels are truly meant for AE86's and other old school RWD cars.

So, I'll probably save them for a Datsun 280 or something.

These are the wheels that I will probably put on the other CRX, but they wont be chrome

i love the rims on the brown one! and i agree on the longchamps, the offset is too low.

Thank you! I had the same feeling, just needed a second opinion. I'm just waiting on the 15in Hartge wheels for it. They were sold out when I first got the model. Some time this week once the clear is cured I'll finally be able paint the window moldings along with the side moldings and the lower rock guard moldings on both.

The rims on the brown one are the 17in one from the 1/25 Revell Integra, but they are about a 16 on the 1/24 and fit just right. I really dislike big rims on EF chassis honda's.

Re: JDM & USDM CRX (CR-X) Si Duo.

I finished up the bodies today. The black took a lot of careful masking.
The caramel CRX:

The olive green CRX with carbon fiber roof and sunroof panel.
