2001 Rio overheating

Where is the thermostat located on an 01 Rio? My sister-in-law's car is overheating and I'm thinking the thermostat could be bad. Is it easily accessable if I want to replace it? I figure that would be the place to start.

It's in the cyl head at the end of the upper rad hose.
