Windstar Interior Disco Lights
My wife and i just recently purchased our second Windstar (2003 SEL), the day after we bought it the interior lights began to flicker. The dealer (Nissan Dealer) has made several attempts at resolving the problem including ALL 5 door switches, and a new computer. And yet they still flicker. If anyone knows of any other cause, please, please post.
BTW, the first one done the same thing, not as frequently and it already had over 100k, this one when purchased had 46k!!! After polling several other Windstar owners, this seems to be the norm for these vans! Thanks |

Re: Windstar Interior Disco Lights
The only thing I can tell you is when mine did this. The battery was going dead.. I mean the van still started and ran fine for a while. Then one day I went out to start the van and all lights then flashed gauges moved and then nothing but a click and everything went dead. New battery installed and all was well.. But like I said it all started with the inside lights flashing from time to time. I thought it was my BCM going bad. Body control module.. So you may want to check all your connections to and from the Battery.. Seeing this one is a 2003 with 46,000 miles. It seems it sat a lot or did not go very far in 5 yrs. My thinking is some connection maybe dirty.

DS douglas, the disco lights maybe the contacts at the power side door, clean them thoroughly, I used a steel wool pad, brillo to clean the tarnish off the contacts, thbaT IS WORTH try, the rear lift gate latch could also be the problem and I think there was a recall notice on the latch. that is all I can remember, I gave the car to my daughter in law and this coming week end am going to try and replace the intake seals to fix the P0171/P0174 codes that are present so she can get an inspection sticker. another known problem that Ford will not recall and repair. FORD has really defined greed in America.

Re: Windstar Interior Disco Lights
The rear sliding doors both have closure switches at the REAR of the door openings that are often overlooked.

Re: Windstar Interior Disco Lights
Our 2003 will do the disco lights from time to time. It started back when it was still under warranty and the dealer said they found a bad connection under the headliner. It quit for a while but still does it. We have found that when it starts to do it if we push the key in farther it quits. It's not like the key is half way out or anything, it will barely move but it makes it quit.

Re: Windstar Interior Disco Lights
We had friends who starting having trouble with their Windstar (that they bought new) about 10k miles before the warranty was up. They had it back to the dealer repeatedly over the course of several months. Any alleged fixes were temporarily enjoyed but the problems came back. In addition to the "disco lights", the doors would lock and unlock as if the vehicle was possessed. Our friend said she nearly went nuts driving over a hundred miles at night in a pouring rain with 2 screaming kids and all the antics the van was going thru. After the warranty was up they had it in for service again and after a week at the dealership and a bill that was unbelieveable they dumped it as a trade and bought something else. They vowed never to buy another Ford as the dealership and Dearborn were both very unhelpful. My 97 F150 has been a great truck overall but we have a 2000 Windstar that has it's challenges. Hope you get it resolved.
