Huge Problem

So I decided to take a little trip to a buddies house roughly 40 miles away. I just had my oil changed yesterday so when I am almost there I hear a ticking noise so I am like what the #*@& is that. I get there and i check the oil it is almost perfect mayyybe a tad low so I buy another quart and add about half start the car and let it run noise goes away. Sweet. Then about half way home the noise starts back up car isn't leaking oil or anything so again I am like what the #*@&. So I pull over to avoid causing any more damage and call the tow truck. The driver (which also used to be my mechanic) he says that it sounds like a lifter collapsed. When I get to the shop and the tow driver drops the car and I started it to drive it into the lot and there was no noise. So if anyone has any info that could possibly save me some money I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks again

Re: Huge Problem

how many miles are on your car?

What brand oil and weight did you use? hopefully 10w30.

Also what filter did you put on?

Re: Huge Problem

I'd be going back to the place that changed your oil, thats for sure.

maybe they double gasketed the oil filter. i know you said you dont see any oil leaking out...but its really hard to believe that the car lost any amt of oil in just 40 miles. especially enough to cause a tick

Re: Huge Problem

Thats a good thought. I'm sure oil pressure would be decreased also if the filter were on there wrong and oil was leaking out.
