98 C1500 clutch/fan removal
I'm switching 305 engines in my 98 C1500 but can't get the clutch/fan of the old motor. I removed the four bolts which I thought held the assembly to the water pump, but none of the parts including the pulley would come off the water pump. Is there a trick to remove the pulley, fan, clutch? Thanks.

Re: 98 C1500 clutch/fan removal
The big nut on the clutch fan takes it off.

Re: 98 C1500 clutch/fan removal
Thx MT, I went to autozone but their instructions are incorrect as they are for the older style setup used for decades. I did get the pulley off; it was just stuck.

It gets tight. I always whack it with wrench on it and whack the wrench with a hammer. Good Luck

Re: 98 C1500 clutch/fan removal
I ended up taking of the complete assembly with the water pump. The wp looked to be a recently installed GM pump so I'll just install the whole assembly on the new motor.

Re: 98 C1500 clutch/fan removal
More than one way to skin a cat.
If you ever have to take it off they make a tool to help or most of them I hit the flat side on nut with a chisel to loosen it up. A good air chisel will loosen them up in a few seconds. Good luck
