2001 Buick Century, just bought used, any thing to watch for?

got it at a local auction for $2000 AS is 143000km, we pick up the car tomorrow. Hopefully doesn't need too much for safety. I am going to change most of the fluids, anything else specific to this car i should pay attention to?

hoping to pass emissions too!

thanks all!

well got it checked out with a local mechanic. it needs breaks for sure, coolant is filthy and goey if you open the radiator cap. Is there a gasket problem with this model that could be causing this?

also got a code when we hooked up the OBD II reader. "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" light was on. He cleared the codes so it went off but this was the code we got.

Crank Shaft Sensor something - Bank 1

any ideas ??

your rear, driver side automatic window will break down, I mean the motor that pulls it up and down, others may break down too. Other than that I cant help you.

no i didn't have a chance to look at any gaskets just yet. Just did the second oil change. I am losing oil so you are probably correct about the gasket. Is there a walkthrough online somewhere for this for a DIYourselfer?

thanks

Re: 2001 Buick Century, just bought used, any thing to watch for?

The intake leaks on these cars usually cause coolant loss including oil/coolant contamination, not oil loss. It is a very common issue and will eventually go bad, but normally doesn't cause oil loss.

Common oil loss areas are the oil pan gasket, rear main seal and the oil pump drive housing o-ring located in the center "v" of the block, drivers side, under the throttle body.
