72 Camaro Headers

Hey everyone,

I am almost finished with a project. It is a 72 Camaro with a BBC. I am looking for someone that has a big block in this car that can give me some help. I have been looking at headers until I am blue in the face. I can't get anyone to tell me straight up if Hedman or Hooker has a pair that will go in with little modifying. I am using a mid plate. I can have a set built for about $1400.00 but would rather something a little more reasonable if possible.

Thanks for any help.

Chris

Re: 72 Camaro Headers

Chris,

Hooker SuperComps generally fit the car they're intended for without modification. If motor mounts or suspension bushings are worn, sometimes a bit of creative "dimpling" is called for. Your mid-plate throws all the "out of the box" stuff to the wind. If it's mounted high enough, it probably won't get in the way. I would call Hooker and ask them. Be prepared with specs on your plate. Hookers have been around longer than most and make BIG power. For the most part, if they supply a part number for your specific application, it will be the best "non-custom" header you can buy.

I would order them "uncoated" and have a real coating shop put the thermal barrier on them. We use Thermal Tech in Hopewell, Virginia. Not only are they close to our shop, they're "the best". We've found specialty coatings to live far longer than the ceramic coatings header companies apply.

Re: 72 Camaro Headers

Well I called and talked with the Tech guys at Hooker and Hedman and both tell me the only problem I will have is with the mid plate. The only good news was the Hedman dude said I might be able to trim the mid plate a bit to get them in but he couldn't guarantee. So, it looks like I am off to the fabricator's.

Thanks for the input MrPbody........

No problem. If you're on te East Coast, let me know. I have some contacts to get good headers "made" and the coating shop are "friends".

Re: 72 Camaro Headers

We are in Greensboro. Send me some names if you get a chance, it won't hurt making a couple of calls.

Thanks,

Chris
