Some Quick ?'s about our 04 Santa Fe
Ok so, we have an AWD. Is the AWD the kind thats all the time or is it whenever it slips it goes to AWD?
Also we have the 2.7V6 and Auto. It seems to not have very good acceleration. It also seems to not want to downshift going up steeper hills. It stays in 3rd ard revs to about 5k RPM and just stays there for probably 30sec or so before it finally shifts to OD. Is this normal?(I'm thinking not) Oh, and after driving it up this hill it starts to smell hot. The temp gauge is normal but it just smells hot.

Re: Some Quick ?'s about our 04 Santa Fe
My '01 is similar to yours. Mine is full time AWD, but the more recent models have a system that uses the rear wheels only when the fronts lose traction. I don't know which model year made the change.
I've noticed that it tends to want to stay in lower gears and shift a little late when the transmission selector is in "D", so I often slide it to the side and shift manually. I've also noticed the engine is a little gutless at low speeds but starts to pull much better as the tach goes past about 3500 RPM or so. I don't know about the hot smell, unless maybe you have a fluid leak that's dripping on the engine or part of the exhaust. Are you losing any fluids?
