Oil Pressure gauge reads 0

I have a 2001 Pontiac Firebird V6. Recently had the problem that my Intake Air Temp sensor was torn off about a week ago (I have the part now, but the following problem ensued) - my Oil Pressure gauge is reading 0 and not going up and the check gauges light is on. I don't know if the two are related or not - I feel as if they are because there is no power going to the wires for the IAT sensor. Does this mean my Oil pressure isn't working though, is it just the gauge, or is that whole electrical line out of whack? My car seems to run fine though, but I'd rather not push it if it could cause damage without it being apparent until it got serious.

first check the oil level and make sure it's full, if not, fill it and see if it leaks out anywhere. replace the oil pressure sending unit, it could be bad, they do go bad, i've replaced them before.

Agreed, I had one that went bad on me. You can get one from your local autoparts store. And you may need a special socket you get it on and off, depends on where its located. I needed on for my 94, but they relocated it for later years, so you may be able to get at it with a crescent wrench.

Thanks - I'll have to locate it and see if I can change it out myself. What about the IAT sensor wires not giving off any charge? Is that only activated in certain instances (like at a specific RPM)? Cause I want to put the new part on, but it's pointless if it's not going to work due to an electrical problem. Also - the wires on the new part are both black - how do I pair them up with the old wires (purple and tan).

if your iat is not working it will throw a check engine light. i couldn't begin to tell you how to match up the wires. were any instructions included?

Re: Oil Pressure gauge reads 0

No instructions in the box, just the part. Check engine light is on - code P0113. Do you think that could have turned the whole line off though? The oil pressure gauge was working fine for a few days after the check engine light for the IAT came on - so it wasn't immediate. But do you think installing the part and erasing the code would reset that system? (oh, and idk if anymore codes came up after the pressure gauge went out - I only had codes pulled before it. The gauge turned on the check gauges light).

Re: Oil Pressure gauge reads 0

The IAT is only a resistive load upon the PCM. The PCM should be supplying 5VDC (open circuit) to the sensor on the tan wire which is pulled to ground via the purple wire.
