Door Lock

I have a 1997 Gran Prix Se with power door locks (no remote). When I pull on the door handle on the inside or outside the door will not open unless I pull very gently and even then most times it will not open. If the handle will not open the door I need to hit the open button on the power lock switch and then try again. You don't hear a click when you hit the power door lock switch to lock it but you do when you hit the unlock. I don't know if its the actuator or the power door lock switch. Even when I use the key on the door lock, I have to turn the key and pull the handle up at the same time to try to get the door open. Any help?

Re: Door Lock

it sounds like a rod inside of the door is out of adjustment. I've never had a rood panel off a GP, but you can take it off and have a look.

Re: Door Lock

I took off the panel and also took off the passenger side so I could compare the two. I don't see any difference. The lock cylinder moves a bit but I dont want to get a new one for $60 and then find out it is the actuator.

Re: Door Lock

get a good used one from Ed Morad at his ebay store

http://stores.ebay.com/Morad-Parts-Company

Send him an email if you dont see one listed, I'm sure he'll have one in stock for a good price.
