2001 sel died while driving

just to give a full scope of the problems here is the run down. 2001 sel with 3.8 engine. check engine light has been on for 2 years and no one can say why. a month ago it started saying check charging system. alternator went bad and i had it rebuilt. since i put it back on it has died twice while driving in the last 2 weeks. once i stop and put it in park it starts back up fine with no problems. now this morning i started it up and the battery light came on and it said check charging system again. i checked for loose connections and couldn't find any. the only thing anyone tells me is the computer is going bad. i need help!!!!!

i don't think the alt has anything to do with it dieing. sounds more like a fuel problem.get your fuel pump tested.

Tom

Welcome to AFs!

What happens when a scanner is hooked up to your van?

I would take your van to a place that can check the charging system.

How many miles on your 2001?

Regards

Dan

Re: 2001 sel died while driving

the van has 113000 miles.
the message (check charging system) comes and goes and also when the message pops up the battery light comes on and if the fan blower is on it starts blowing harder but the only thing that codes up at advance auto is the fuel is running lean

Re: 2001 sel died while driving

Well if the OBDII system is telling the code then I don't think its the CPU..As long as it talking to the OBD scanner. Also when the Battery on these Windstars get low they do crazy things I know.. If you had your ALT rebuilt then something could have been done wrong seeing how your ALT was the problem the first time... Also if your code was 171 then thats another issue all together. You need to have that ALT removed and tested along with the battery... At least that will rule them out..
