ball joints, tyrods

95 jimmy 4x4 4.3 214000plus miles need both upper and lower balljoints both sides also ty rods both sides. uppers look sorta easy ,ty rods same thing. i notest lowers were replaced with bolts, my question is can i do lowers without removing axles or is should it be left to the pros

The lowers can be done without removing the axles however, the hub assemblies must be removed.

well, started job on tuesday and finnished on saturday,lol never did anything like this at all, i had very limited time on week days and sat was the day i comepleted it.after .tierod rods were easy, uppers also,but lowers werea b@#$% i didnt have a tool for axle nut so what i did was to break top seam on jointand a little tap with a dead blow to get it past axle(scary).was it worthit ya saved around $450 in labor. my only problem now is when i back up with wheel cut right i get a bib clunk this was there before job (what happened is took air in 4wheel and came down hard,4wheel dont engage but thats another thread another time unless you guys have possible answers. thank you for all help and info you gave me K

Incase you want to purchase a new set of axle nuts they have an external dimension of 35mm.

I had to go to auto zone and take a few out to my truck to see which one was the right size. Also you need to use a breaker bar or really long ratchet to remove it and install it. An air impact will not work because the axle and gears take up the slack so the blows are not effective at turning the nut. Mine needed over 100 foot pounds just to get it to turn and was at the 123 foot pound rating before it was even seated at the hub. There is a lot of thread are on the end of the axle.

Impact works fine if you loosen the nuts before raising the wheels off of the ground. Same holds true when tightening and adjusting torque.... do it when the wheels are on the ground.
