93 grand prix se antenna hook up

i recent posted another thread about my new (used) 93 grand prix with stereo and or speaker problem,,, while taking the panels off and the center console i came across an unplugged wire (black) and it said antenna on it so i'm thinking thats why i cant pick up radio stations, my question is where does that plug into its a black cable, much like a tv cable with that same type of hookup i found it under the center console?? and i donno why it was there unless it plugs in somewhere there, so i was wondering if anyone could answer my question thx

Does the car still have the factory stereo in the dash?

does the cable have a screw end, much like a cable cord? if you found in underneath the center counsel and it has a screw end...i dont believe it has anything to do with your radio, it sounds like an antenna for a CV or some type of radio to that affect.

Re: 93 grand prix se antenna hook up

here's a picture of a common GM antenna adapter.

http://www.tune-town.com/yho/lg40-gm21.gif

if the wire you're looking at looks like the end of the adapter that is bent 90 degrees, then that is the antenna cable. Since GM used two different size antenna cables, you may need the adapter in the picture. They make these adapters that adapt both ways if needed, small to large or large to small.

Re: 93 grand prix se antenna hook up

yes this is the factory stereo and also in the picture with the 90 degree bent cord it has an adaptor just like that plugged into it, today in my auto collision class we took it out and looked at the preamp in the player and it looked fine, next we plan on running an antenna power booster from my battery to the where the adapter hooks up and the antena cord i havent seen it, (its his booster) he says that should help in picking up the radio stations but i still have the problem with the speakers playing extremly faint (only can hear it when key is turned to accesories, without it running) so he figures its a problem with the wiring inbetween the deck and speakers

Re: 93 grand prix se antenna hook up

With the speakers being faint, I would first measure the resistance of your speakers with a DVM at the speaker. Do this with the wire harness disconnected from the speaker. Then I would disconnect the wire harness from the radio and check the resistance again. Have the speakers connected when you measure the resistance. The resistance that you will measure should be slightly higher that what you measured at the speakers. This is due to the wire harness will add some resistance.
