96 cutlass supreme shocks and struts

Alright everybody, I am looking to do the shocks and struts on my 96 in my driveway. I already have the struts and shocks but does anybody know where to get the tool for the front shocks? I can't seem to find it and Autozone looks at you like I am stupid when I ask for it. Also, do I really need to compress the transverse spring to get my rear struts out? I really don't feel like messing with it but if I have to I will. Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Any good parts house such as Napa can get that for you, AZ and the like do not know where to start with real repair issues.
