Keyless Entry Issue 98 Mountaineer

I just bought a 98 mountaineer and they didn't have the code to give me... Is there a way to reset the lock code and program a new one? Also I only got one key for the truck and the key only starts the vehicle but does not let me open the doors... Is there something I can do with the silly code so I can get in the truck if my remote battery dies?

They've addressed this a few times over on the Explorer forum. I think you'll find your answer here.

Re: Keyless Entry Issue 98 Mountaineer

i have a 98 mountaineer...my key will open the passenger door, but not the drivers door..i have to pull the lock...seems the winters here have made it so the cylinders don't turn in the lock(salt i assume...)...easy fix....

Re: Keyless Entry Issue 98 Mountaineer

I have a 97, and had the same problem. I found the code on the power lock control unit which (in my 97) is located behind a panel in the rear drivers side of cargo area. I had to use a telescoping mirror and a flash light, and found it easily; my code is five digits long.
