Water pump pipe

We were working on our 1993 Cavalier RS 3.1 and a hole developed in the metal pipe that runs from the waterpump around the side of the engine, T's off to the intake and then dissapears behind the engine toward the firewall. Is this common and is it a total PITA to replace?

Re: Water pump pipe

You might be able to get away with a piece of hose repair.

Cut the section out with a cutting tool / wheel. Smooth off the cut edges. Put a length of hose in place of it, and clamp it with band-type clamps - as wide as possible for the size.

Re: Water pump pipe

Thank you. I will take care of it this weekend.

I also had trouble with the little brass 90° fitting on top of the thermostat housing. I tightened it too much and broke it off... Doh!!! I can't find the stupid fitting 1/8 90° to 5/16 or something close to that. The larger end appears to have what I would call a inverted flare fitting.. I ended up with a 1/8" 90° to barbed fitting. I'll end up cutting the end off of the metal line and using a piece of rubber house between the two like was recommended for the other metal line unless someone knows where I can get the correct brass fitting.
