92 Taurus blend door actuator

Novice mechanic here. The temp dial does not have any effect. Only ambient air regardless of setting. Was told by my Ford dealer that the blend door actuator motor was toast; which they gladly sold to me. Problem is that can't find where in the dash it is located. Have a Chilton manual and a copy of the Ford parts manual page. Both show the location, but I'm not able to see or reach the spot. Neither match and what's under the dash doesn't seem to look like either one! Have the glove box and a dash vent tube removed. (The AC has not worked in years. Never used it) Manual ac/heater system. Just getting back to this problem after letting it sit for 6 months.

Re: 92 Taurus blend door actuator

The blend door actuator is located ON TOP of the evaporator assembly.

Thanks for the reply. There seems to be only about a half inch of clearance between the ev assembly the dash shell. Does that mean I would have to drop the assembly to reach it?
Going to soon change my id from pushing300m to past300km. Just went past the 300,000 mile mark yesterday.

Here is a link with directions for changing out the BDA on a '92 T:

Autozone's repair guides are somewhat easy to follow for novices like me...hopefully you'll find that to be true too.

Re: 92 Taurus blend door actuator

not sure if youre still working on this. the defroster blend door actuator has NO EFFECT on the temperature. it simply directs the airflow from the dash registers to the windshield, and back

The blend door is what varies the air flow between the evaporator core and the heater core, so it will have a significant impact on temperature.

Re: 92 Taurus blend door actuator

we must not be talking about the same blend door, as i watched mine in operation (part #yh451) from a/c to defrost and it only redirected airflow
