I have a 1999 Olds Cutlass GL, which my daughter uses for transportation, to and from school. Unfortunately she just filled the gas tank, and the fuel pump went out, leaving me with a relatively, full tank of gas. I tried the old hose down the filler tube routine, with no luck getting it into the gas tank. Got about 3 feet of plastic tube snaked in, and no farther. Am looking for suggestions, as how to remove a large amount of fuel from the tank, without dumping it all over the garage floor. Hayes book says to use a siphon kit to remove the fuel. Is there something other that the old rubber/plastic tubing, used to remove fuel from the gas tank? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I dread the thought of dropping the tank, fully loaded.

Re: 99 Cutlass GL - fuel siphoning before fuel pump replacement
There should be one big hose and one small hose. You may have to remove the small hose from the tank and use that access in order for this to work.

Re: 99 Cutlass GL - fuel siphoning before fuel pump replacement
Appreciate the suggestion, on the siphon pump. I'm looking more for info, on how to get at the fuel in the tank, other than thru the filler tube.
There are 2 hoses coming off the fuel pump, they are both the same size. One is the fuel supply line, the other is the return line, neither of which is allowing me to siphon the fuel through. There is a large rubber hose between the filler neck and the tank, do I access the tank at this point? |
