2000 Ford Focus - blowing cold air
My girlfriend has a 2000 Ford Focus sedan w/ 81K on it. Rountine maintenance always done by a dealership. Yesterday we noticed a yogurt aroma coming thru and this morning, after the first frost, it was blowing cold air instead of heat. There's no leak or damp spot on the passenger floorboard indicating a problem w/ the heater core. Coolant level is normal and is clean. Temp stays normal and doesn't vary more or less. Seems to me this is a thermostat issue and it needs to be replaced; wondering if anyone has had this issue? The scent is what is making me believe this may be more than the thermostat - any help is appreciated - thanks!

Re: 2000 Ford Focus - blowing cold air
Welcome fo Automotive Forums. Could be a lack of vacuum to the blend door. When the defrost mode is on the system takes the air through the AC evaporator to remove moisture, then it passes through the heater core to heat it for the defrost. The blend door isn't directing the cooled air through the heater core. Check for a vacuum hose leak at the engine or at the heater.

The Ford Focus Yogurt machine.......
![]() The focus'are made with plastic thermostat housing and crack after 50k miles or so. My wifes focus hencho en mexico has cracked for the second time. As the crack gets bigger you'll lose more antifreeze and that's what you mat be smelling.
