03 Silverado 1500 front speakers

One of my fron door speakers crapped out and I need to replace. Before I break something or waste a lot of time I thought I'd ask:

Do the speaker grills come off, or do I take the whole door panel off?

If the grills do come off, how?

Thanks,

The speakers are installed from the inside of the door panel as are the speaker grills. The tweeter is installed right in the panel itself and the other speaker is mounted to the door. It is an easy enough job to get the door panel off, just take your time. You have to remove the triangle shaped panel at top front of the door panel that covers the access hole for the wiring for the mirror. Next the panel for the window switches and mirror controls if you have power mirrors. Just gently pry up on this and it will pop out, then unplug the wiring connectors. There is a screw at the bottom of the door handle at the rear part of the handle. I can't recall if there is a screw under the panel for the window / mirror switches or not. The door panel simply lifts up slightly, maybe a inch if that, then out. Again just be careful and take your time. Good luck. Oh and don't forget to unlpug the wiring connector for the light in the door.

Re: 03 Silverado 1500 front speakers

Sorry, not on my 03. I have had issues. I think it is a late model 03. The paint code etc. is supposedly only available of an 04.

I pulled the panel that covers the wiring for the mirror and the screw on the bottom of the door O.K. The switches only pop out on the rear. If I run my hand in the hold there is a screw holding the front of the switches on. I looked with a flashlight, and there is nothing under the panel that would hold the door panel on. I pulled the panel off by the door handle and can't see anything holding it there either. It will not pull up any at all. I looked for other screws around the perimiter and can't find anything holding it on. I am working on the passenger door first as I thought it would give me less problems.

Re: 03 Silverado 1500 front speakers

O.K. I pried and pulled some more and finally got the panel to pull away enough to see my stupidity.

There is a manual lock button naturally with the power locks. Gently pried it off and surprise there was a screw under it.

The power locks and mirror controls have no attachment to release. After that it was simple to slide up and off. Release all the wiring etc.

Thanks for getting me started. I HATE working with door panels they are always a pain in the a$$.

allegedly, there's no difference in door trim and attechment 1999 through 2005. it is a click to remove it on my 2000, virtually 3 screws and then just pull panel up-out of openings for the thick plastic hooks that hold panel in the door. door handle trim needs to be wiggled off to get to the handle screw, and there's hidden screw in the door panel pocket. unclip connestors. that's about it.

yours must be different somehow.
anyways, speaker is not attached to the door. should be glued to a large plastic ring, sort of a buffle, that clips into the door. good luck with that. you'll need to either rip speaker off that ring and then glue another one back to it, or drill holes for screws. or, drill holes in the door and screw speaker directly to it. which other folks have done before.

mine started making farting noises at low, i inspected it, diffusor was not ripped, so i just packed frame with fiberglass insulation. works well for over 8 mths by now. i still donno why it started making noises.

while we on the topic, anyone knows how to get to the third door speaker? looks like whole entire panel needs to be removed, chilton has NOTHING on it.

the screw under the manual door lock lever is something I will have to remember on the 03 as the 2000 and 2002 do NOT have this screw...

I replaced my speakers this year.. one speaker the coil opened no sound driver side ...I replaced with a jbl 6in speaker ...removed connector from old speakers soldered to new... used a heavy duty double sticky tape on door frame and used 3 screws to secure to the door frame...

this should have been done in april of 2000...the day i purchased vehicle ......
