looking for some engine advice

hey guys im lookin for some advice on what to do with the new 2.2l i bought for my car. i just wanna be able to basically beat the crap out of the engine lol have it bouncin off rev limiter a few times a day, so ideas would be awesome cuz im new to the cavi scene

ill try making myself a little more clear. i recently bought a 97 5spd with a newer 2.2l engine thats in surprisingly good shape. im planning on swapping the engine thats in it, with either this newer one or another engine entirely. so im looking for either an idea of what i can swap into it easily (without making new mounts), OR (preferably hehe) suggestions on rebuiling this newer one a bit, just to take a beating, and a bit of hp, does NOT have to be a lot.

2.4L DOHC LD9 will be your best bet without having to dump a load of money. This came in the Z24's.

The 2.2L Ecotec i feel is THE best motor that was ever put into a J-body due to reliability and how it loves Boost shoved down its throat. However, an ecotec swap on a pre-2000 car requires a whole donor car as the entire cars everything wiring wise, fueling, evap, HVAC all need to be 2000+.

Its not cheap, trust me. I'm currently in around $6k myself. ( But where applicable I have purchased performance parts[motor mounts, custom radiator, stage 4 clutch, GMPP Supercharger kit , balance shaft delete kit, and a shit load of other things...])

If you want to break parts and want very expensive repairs,the 2.4 Quad and the transmission is differant too.The 2.2 is very cheap to fix.The ecotec is is the better choice over the 2.4 quad

If the motor is already in good shape, stay with it. If you want a little more scoot, play with the exhaust and the intake/air inlet.

Swappin' motors is askin' for cash trouble, even if it's a new motor goin' in. Keep it tuned, and you'll be happy.

I agree with thecoolestlooser, so intake exaust work and beat the old motor till it grenades. That way you have a backup motor and when you swap the performance gains from the intake/exhaust are still there. In the meantime you could tinker with the new engine to get it ready for when you do the swap. It is good that you are being realistic about the potential of the 2.2 ohv engine though, there are lots of newbies that think they can turn it into a race engine...
