safety feature or what?

today a kid pulled out from a stop sign to cross the street i was driving down, and i t-boned him (the accident was not my fault) anyways, immediately upon impact the airbags deploy and the engine shuts off, i didnt try restarting the engine cuz i didnt even think about it, and the car got towed away

my question is though, about a minute after the wreck, after everyone was out of their vehicles standing outside, my horn started blowing, and it would not stop until the fire department arrived and cut the battery cables, im wondering what made the horn start honking out of nowhere like that, it was a constant honk, not an on and off, just a constant blare

Re: safety feature or what?

When your air bag went off in your steering wheel, the power and ground for the horn is a really poorly designed setup. The power is held inside a spring through the clock spring not very tightly other than pushed in and rotated, and the leads on the air bag are just push on connections. When i took my air bag out my connections were loose.

My guess is that when the air bag deflated the circuit was completed somehow.

Just a guess however.

Re: safety feature or what?

This is unrelated but the horn on my 97 z works intermittantly do you think the spring could be the culprit? I haven't had time to tear into it and its really annoying when I push the horn and sometimes it will work and other times not.

Open the hood, and see if it will jump, when it won't honk at the button.
