1999 Kia Sephia Transmision

I have a 1999 Kia Sephia and the transmission is acting up. It started like it was slipping from one gear to the next and now it is shifting back and forth and the RPMS are all over the place. Does anyone know what could be wrong with it. I believe it is a relay or sensor that is going bad. Any suggestions?
