I Can't Figure Out what the Hell Is wrong

Now, Im generally pretty mechanicly inclined, but I am having a problem with two of my vehicles that I cant figure out at all. First off, I recently had to replace the alternator in my 1997 Subaru outback legacy. Ever since I did this the only thing my car does is that the alarm goes off until the key is turned to the on position. when the key is turned to the start position, nothing happens at all. once the key is pulled out of the on position, the alarm starts to go off again. does anybody have a solution to this?

My second problem is that my 92 eclipse will start if I jump it, run for between 3 and 10 minutes and then shut off. I just replaced the alternator in this vehicle as well and so I know that that is good, but I have no idea about what is wrong now. Im open to any suggestions for either vehicle.

First off, you may do better posting in each of the vehicals forums but I'll try to give you my thoughts.
Wow! Two vehicals with simular problems. It sounds like both of them have had a dead battery, a bad alt and both have an alarm system.

What happens if you were to charge the battery on the Sub? Will it start w/o a jump?

Regards

Dan

Just because an alternator is new doesn't mean it's good. It also doesn't mean it's hooked up correctly.

Do you have a multimeter and (no offense here) know how to use it? If so, what are you getting for battery voltage with the key off and then what do you get for battery voltage when the engine is running? It would also be good to monitor what the battery voltage drops to while the starter is cranking the engine.

Exclamation Re: I Can't Figure Out what the Hell Is wrong

I have tried both of those options and neither worked. The Sub is still just an alarm car, I even replaced the battery with a new one. and the eclipse will start, and run for a couple minutes, then die. The Alt. on both of them has been pulled 3 times and tested twice a piece, and the fuses are all good as far as I can tell. any other suggestions

There is a reset button under the dash up where your left foot is. Press it and the vehicle will start.

Well, it doesn't sound like the alarm is of much use. Why not disconnect it and remove it from the car?
