Cat Converter Removal
92 4.9 L ElDorado.
My cat is rattling and clogged and my gas pressure is sucking horribly because of it. I register all of my vehicles in a county where emissions inspections aren't mandatory and I'm considering completely removing the cat in exchange for a straight pipe to the exhaust. I know that, federally, this isn't acceptable, but I'm not too concerned with that portion of it. My concern is that I won't get enough blowback with the converter completely removed and my 02 sensors will probably start throwing codes. Anyone have some input on this? |

Re: Cat Converter Removal
Federal offense, replace the cat with an aftermarket, around 200.00!!

Re: Cat Converter Removal
Notice the part where I said I wasn't concerned with that portion of it.
I don't want a cat, and definitely don't want to spend 200 bucks on one. I'd rather spend twelve on a pipe and tig it into place. My question wasn't about the legality of it. I'm concerned with the 02 sensors going apeshit and not getting enough blowback. |

Re: Cat Converter Removal
Our policy on AF, is not to advise on any condition that would be unsafe or illegal, sorry.

Re: Cat Converter Removal
So lets just say for the sake of argument that I plan on using the car strictly on the track. Given that scenario, any advice on this issue?

Re: Cat Converter Removal
Removing the car will not have any adverse effects, some back pressure is required for the egr system though.

Re: Cat Converter Removal
Max, that sounds kind of contradictory. Did you mean that removing the cat will have no adverse effects on the 02 sensors, but WILL have effects on the EGR? I kind of figured the EGR would be effected, but my thoughts were that it wouldn't restrict performance. You thinking it'll be throwing codes?
