Towncar weird
Hey guys. My 99 TC started to act up today. First thing as I was driving slow to get in a complex my radio turned off, then headlights and abs lights came on. I parked it and it would not start, just the cranking sound. I jumped it for a bit and it turned on but my headlights would not turn on,windows would not roll down. I put a meter to the battery as the car was off and I got 12VTs DC. I parked the car and the lights where really dim and would flash so I disconnected the battery..I think my battery could be bad(2 yrs old) and wont keep a charge,or could it be the alternator?? I would love the pros feedback !! Thanks!!

Re: Towncar weird
Hello, Is the engine light on? If so whats are the codes? Sounds like the ECM is not working correctly.

Re: Towncar weird
Well problem is fixed. I went to Sears and bought a Diehard Gold battery.. I got home and installed it,car started up fine,I disconnected one lead off the battery, car turned off,bad alternator. I should have that tried that last night but I had forgotten that little trick. Oh well at least I have a great new battery. I called my mechanic,he was here quickly. He bought a new alternator and installed it,took him about 1/2 hour. Total cost of my adventure 130 for the battery and 240 for the alternator with install,so 370.00 for everything. This year I have spent well over 2500 for new tires and repairs,I hope thats it for a while. I know the car is a 99 and its starting to wear but i really take care of it and has exactly 100 k miles on it,and I dont want to get a new car the way our nice economy is right now,but I really like the 03 and newer town car models...
