adjust motor mounts

ok so I need some help. like 4 months ago I accidentally put my car in reverse when i was doing like 30mph and wasted my motor mounts . after that happened of course the motor rocked back and forth but also there would be a grinding noise when hitting bumps or on hard take offs. a few days later i replaced the 2 motor mounts (the easy accessible aluminum ones) and the problems stopped. Well like 2 months later the grinding noise is back. At first i though it was from a bad lower control arm on the right so i replaced that along with new bushings and a ball joint. it still kept making noise so i though it had to be a bad inner cv joint so i replaced the whole half shaft. The dam thing keeps making noise so i finally took it to a shop and the mechanic took a guess and said that its probably my motor mounts. So now i have a haynes book and see there are a total of 4 mounts. but when reading the manual it says that there is a torque strut adjustment that needs to be done. In the book it says to measure 4.70 inches but on mine its more close to 6 inches, even after loosining the mounts i still cant get it to come even close.

I dont know what to do besides take it to a shop but i know I'll probably get charged for the repair more than the cars worth. can some one please help me out or is ther anyone that has had this same problem?

Thanks

Re: adjust motor mounts

There are only 3 motor mounts and if your car is a manual, then you also have a bobble strut.

Well if you are pretty sure, then I AM DAMN SURE! I have pulled enough motors out to know how many mounts there are

Unhappy Re: adjust motor mounts

The same happened to my 04 neon. Both easy to replace motor mount were replaced but the one by the transmission was checked by a mechanic and he said it was alright.Replacing motor mounts did not fix the vibration.I don't know what else to do.

Re: adjust motor mounts

Daughter's 2003 had this grumbling noise on acceleration or if she hit a bump. Had upper & lower motor mounts (pass. side) replaced but it still had the grumbling noise. It's was worse, actually. Took it back to the mechanic and he realized there is a center motor mount. Replaced that and all is good!! All 3 mounts were needing replacement.
