1999 2.7 Water Connector

Getting ready to replace the water connector on a 2.7 Intrepid. Is there anyone with good "how to" instructions? Is this an OEM part or is there an aftermarket alternative?

Re: 1999 2.7 Water Connector

If you are referring to the assembly that connects the upper radiator hose to the engine and consists of a long tube and "gooseneck" with bleeder valve, here goes:

Remove the upper intake manifold. This is straightforward, just keep up with the fasteners. After removing, cover all intake holes with rags so that dirt/debris cannot enter engine cavity.

Remove upper radiator mount, radiator fan, and radiator.

Remove heater hose and temp sensor from assembly. Remove 4 retaining screws and replace as needed.

Replace all components in reverse order. New upper intake gasket should be used, but if you are careful and it is in good shape, you can get by without doing this. DO NOT overtighten upper intake bolts.

In my case the replacement assemby had the bleeder valve on the "metal part" of the assembly, not on the plastic "gooseneck". I originally dissasembled the new one and replaced the gooseneck only. BIG mistake. Took forever to get all of the air out of the system. I ended up removing the radiator and replacing the tube also. It would have taken less time to do it "the right way" the first time.

According the dealership parts guy I talked to, this is a common problem on these cars (Gooseneck leaks) . I pd $108 for this part! Good luck!
