What do you think of the SS?

I was just wondering what you think of the Silverado SS. I think it is a really nice model and is a really good idea from Chevy. I was just wondering what true Silverado fans think about this?

I think it should be a really nice deal, unlike the 454 SS they came out with a decade ago. The only problem I see is I don't really care for AWD nor what it does for the gas mileage but other than that I can't wait to drive one!!

I like the pronounced air scoops on the lower front lip. Full-time AWD seems a little silly, though

I like the looks of it, but it really pisses me off that it only has 345hp. How is this gonna keep up with the Lightning straight from the factory? It definately needs to be lowered more to improve the handling and looks. The wheels don't really do it for me either. Overall I like it but there is a lot I would change and wish Chevy would change the hp number.

You already got one? I don't think we have one yet... I will have to check and take it for a run around the lot.

We did get a Jeff Gordon Badged Lumina in the other day.

short box is the way to go

i dislike the looks of the ss due to its bulkiness and luxury. Now the new concept to bring out a standard cab 5 speed is what im talking about. all wheel drive is good for bad wheather but otherwise what are you gonna b doing in a truck? I will never buy an auto matic and this ss seems to be just my type.

i agree...kinda like a big s10 with no flare...doesn't really have anything to make it stand out....like chrome rims or something.....it needs something eye-catching

I think it's beauty is in it's simplicity. I saw the that same color blue one at the NY Auto show. It could use a little more 'flare', I guess. I am waiting to see one tricked out. I'm sure the aftermarket will treat this truck well.

That's right, it's sitting in my driveway!! Okay, so it's the old man's truck, but still...... That thing would be a Lightning cooker if it had a supercharger, but then the gas mileage would go down to about 10 MPG, considering it's close enough to that anyway. That's why I say put a pair of nice big turbos on that thing. A pair of hair dryers would make that thing cook, and it would only burn gas when you're really stepping on the throttle. (Which would be often for me) Come to think of it, I could probably go for a pair of turbos on my Caprice......
Cab-wise, NOTHING EVEN COMES CLOSE!!!! Ford can just as well put a wooden bench in their cabs in comparison to this thing..... And it's actually got a pretty decent stereo in it too. The white gauges really do something to the dash.
I still think the boys in the shop coulda put a few more horses under the hood.......
:EDIT: I agree, a stickshift and a regular cab optoin wouldn't be a bad thing, either.

I could be biased, but I think it is great I got mine March 13th and it is pretty quick stock. I just added a Magnacharger Radix. Now it does 13.92@93 on the 1/4 mile, and has some room for improvement.

ShibbyPoopalot-
It's not going to be cooking any Lightnings, but I can keep up with some of the stock Lightnings (depending on who's stories you belive about what a stock Lightning will do ). Besides, it is better to compare it to the F-150 Harley Davidson. The mileage has not dropped that much with the supercharger, but it all depends on how heavy the foot is :sun: It still gets 16-17mpg on the flat highway, but mixed driving gets an average of 11-12mpg depending on my mood. Remember, the drag of the supercharger is minimal when not under boost, thanks to the bypass valve. But it will suck the gas when you push the pedal down !!! Besides, you don't buy a truck like this to save money on gas I have had it up to 120mph and it feels very comfortable and stable.

You and your dad should come on over and visit the Silverado SS crowd at www.SilveradoSS.com
